Curriculum Vitae
My name is Eefje van Sloten-Bronsveld and I started doglogix in 2007. Before getting to that point I traveled a long way through “dog world”
.
Volunteer at the animal shelter
In 1999 I started as a volunteer at the animal shelter in Zoetermeer; in 2001 I was given a permanent position. After working there for some time I started to get more and more frustrated at the fact the dogs should not belong in animal shelters. If dog owners would get good and easily accessible (preventive) support for raising and training their dog, animal shelters would not be needed so much.
Instructor
In 2002 I left the animal shelter to become an instructor at dog school Vlietstede. In order to do so I took courses and got several certificates and diploma's from Kynotrain, O&O and others. I worked there until 2005, giving lessons to owners of pups, young and adult dog. This usually went in groups, which is a good way for a lot of dogs and their owners to learn and exercise.
Problem situation
There is also group of people and dogs that don't fit in group training. The dogs have a hard time concentrating during the lessons due to playfulness, aggression or fear. Or dogs of which the problems can't be solved by teaching them basis commands like “sit”
and “down”
. And of course there will always be people who don't like group lessons themselves or would like to get more than just the basic commands.
Specialization
My interest in these exceptions made me specialize myself more. I started studies to become a dog behavioral therapist at the Martin Gaus behavior institute. I finished my studies in 2006 cum laude.
In practice
My own dog James was brought to the animal shelter in Zoetermeer when he was 5 months old. His previous owner had most likely mistreated and abused him severely. In his short live he developed a long list of behavioral problems. His fear caused aggression towards humans and dogs. We immediately made a connection and after two months I made the decision to take him home with me. In the last 9 years we worked hard together to change his behaviour. During my studies I was able to apply everything I learned (treatment methods, therapies) immediately at home on him. James has over time changed in a happy and open dog which I now sometimes use to train other 'problem'-dogs.
Dutch association of dog behavior consultants
I'm a member of Alpha® (my membership number is 1268). Alpha® is the Dutch association of dog behavior consultants. Only members with a certified diploma can become a member and members must follow courses each year to keep their knowledge up to date.
